Winter Warmers Continued

On the request of MB, we are drinking our way through winter warmers.  We’ve got three more reviews to offer.  We’ve also been using this keen “33 Bottles of Beer” journal for beer tasting that MB passed along.

Ebenezer (Bridgeport) ★★☆☆☆ Somewhat unremarkable, but it was not overly malty, as many holiday brews can be.  Hints of caramel/toffee, but pretty minimal spiciness.

Hibernation Ale (Great Divide) ★★★☆☆ Nice rich caramel flavor with aroma of nutmeg, cinnamon, and something else we couldn’t put a name on.  Very minimal hops.  The flavor wheel (see image below) in the 33 beers journal likens this beer to a break-dancing snowman.  Whatever that means.

Snow Day Winter Ale (New Belgium) ★★☆☆☆ Understated.  It seems kind of shy and did not bring as much flavor as expected (in the hops or spice department).  Not unpleasant, just kind of boring.

As the winter warmers wane, we’ll be using our new journal to see what the flavor wheel can tell us about our other favorite ales.

Cheers!
