The two things

Look, I usually don’t talk about this kind of shit here, but over the last couple of days two things happened that really touch some sore spots for me: number one is the shooting in Newton and the ensuing crap about “if the teachers had a gun blablablabla…” (the murdered teacher, btw., was an avid shooter & gun owner) — listen, if this is a country where people have to arm themselves to defend themselves against other people who, also legally, carry a gun than this is not a first world country. I don’t have a problem with people owning guns and I’m fine with hunting, but what I don’t understand is why people need to have guns that are made specifically to kill other humans. And don’t give me any of this “protect my family” shit — really? How often does that happen?

And number two (pun definitely intended) is that the God-Hates-Fags assholes are planning to picket the funeral of the kids who got shot — this actually pisses me off so much that I don’t even know what to say. I, personally, haven’t gotten anything but negative vibes from any Xtian group I had contact with, so as long as they stay the fuck out of everybody else’s business I don’t give a fuck…but it doesn’t work this way with these people, right? They have this urge to bring their god in all his forms into other people’s lives, whether they want it or not, and want to tell them what to do. To which I say: Fuck you, thankyouvermuch, but not thanks. One thing you can do is petition to have them recognized as a hate group, because that’s what they are. Sign the petition here: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/legally-recognize-westboro-baptist-church-hate-group/DYf3pH2d

You can probably tell that I’m pretty upset about this entire thing and someone who has a much calmer and more reasonable response is Joshua Whalen, so go and read his essay “Get the tar and feathers ready, I’m going to talk about guns,” which, other than my rant, offers some solutions.
